Cosmobill vs.
FreshBooks

A straight, feature-by-feature look at how the two compare - pricing, invoicing, payments, and everything in between. Every Cosmobill claim here is enforced in the product; every FreshBooks data point is sourced from freshbooks.com's own pricing/feature pages.

Free plan
Cosmobill Comet
5 invoices/mo, unlimited saved clients, estimates/time/expenses/attachments/multi-business all included - free forever
Entry tier
FreshBooks Lite - $23/mo
No free plan - only a 30-day trial. Lite caps you at 5 billable clients and locks out proposals, retainers, e-signatures, and accounting reports

FreshBooks doesn't have a free plan at all - its cheapest option is $23/mo and still caps you at 5 clients, the same limit Cosmobill's free plan has. See the full table below for everything else.

Pricing & limits

FeatureCosmobillFreshBooks
Free plan
FreshBooks has no free tier at all - only a 30-day free trial, after which you must pick a paid plan to keep using it. Cosmobill's Comet tier is free indefinitely, not a trial.
Billable clients on cheapest paid plan
FreshBooks' entry Lite plan still caps you at 5 billable clients - the same limit Cosmobill's free Comet plan has, except Cosmobill's is free and FreshBooks' costs $23/mo.
Unlimited (even free)
5 clients (Lite, $23/mo)
Cheapest paid plan
$5/mo (Planet)
$23/mo (Lite)
Unlimited invoices AND unlimited clients on one plan
FreshBooks ships unlimited invoices on every plan including Lite, but only removes the client cap at its $70/mo Premium tier - Lite and Plus stay capped at 5 and 50 clients respectively no matter how few invoices you send.
Planet ($5/mo)
Premium ($70/mo)
Credit card required to start
Neither requires a card up front - FreshBooks' 30-day trial and Cosmobill's Comet plan both let you start without one. The difference is what happens after: Cosmobill stays free, FreshBooks requires a paid plan once the trial ends.

Getting paid

FeatureCosmobillFreshBooks
PayPal payments

Team, branding & businesses

FeatureCosmobillFreshBooks
Team members
FreshBooks charges $11/mo for every team seat on every plan (Select includes its first 2 free) - a 5-person team costs an extra $55/mo on top of the plan price. Cosmobill bundles 5 seats into its flat $10/mo Galaxy tier with no per-seat charge.
Up to 5 (Galaxy, $10/mo)
$11/mo per seat, any plan
Read-only ("Viewer"/Employee) role at no extra cost
Every FreshBooks team member costs $11/mo regardless of role, including its most restricted Employee role. Cosmobill's read-only role is bundled with Galaxy's team seats at no separate charge.
Multiple business identities under one login
FreshBooks lets you add and switch between businesses under one login, but each is its own subscription with its own 30-day trial and its own plan/payment - nothing is shared except the login. Cosmobill's multiple businesses share one account and one plan's entitlements.

A note on this comparison

FreshBooks details above come from freshbooks.com's public pricing page and support articles as of when this page was written - pricing pages change, so if something here looks off, treat freshbooks.com as the source of truth for their current plans. Note that freshbooks.com/pricing currently runs a "90% off for 6 months" promotion; the figures used here ($23/$43/$70 for Lite/Plus/Premium) are FreshBooks' standard list prices, not that temporary promo rate, for a fair long-term comparison. FreshBooks is a genuinely deep, mature accounting product with real strengths Cosmobill doesn't try to match - double-entry accounting reports, bank reconciliation, mileage tracking, tax-time reports, and Buy-Now-Pay-Later checkout among them. Where Cosmobill differs is in what's actually free: Cosmobill has no-cost tier that never expires, while FreshBooks' cheapest plan is $23/mo and still caps you at 5 clients - the exact limit Cosmobill's free plan has, at no cost. Every Cosmobill row marked available on a plan is a feature that actually ships in the product today, not a roadmap item.
