Cosmobill vs.
Wave

A straight, feature-by-feature look at how the two compare - pricing, invoicing, payments, and everything in between. Every Cosmobill claim here is enforced in the product; every Wave data point is sourced from waveapps.com's own pricing/feature pages.

FeatureCosmobillWave
Shareable invoice link (client portal)
Customer self-fills their own billing details
On Wave, the seller enters the client's info themselves when creating them as a customer. Cosmobill's customer opens the invoice link and fills in their own name/address/tax ID - you never mistype an EIN.

Getting paid

FeatureCosmobillWave
PayPal payments
Wave's payment processing is Wave Payments only - it doesn't offer PayPal as a checkout option on an invoice. Cosmobill accepts PayPal on every plan including free.
Card payments
Wave's own card processing is available on Starter at no monthly fee, but every transaction carries a 2.9%+$0.60 fee (3.4%+$0.60 Amex) - Pro discounts this to 2.9%/3.4%+$0 for your first 10 transactions/month, then it reverts to the standard rate. Cosmobill's free Comet tier is PayPal/card only at checkout - card processing beyond PayPal needs Planet.

Bank transfer (ACH)
Cosmobill's bank transfer is a manual self-report the buyer and seller confirm between themselves, at no processing fee. Wave's ACH is an automated in-app charge, but takes a 1% cut (minimum $1) of every transfer.

Team, branding & businesses

FeatureCosmobillWave
Team members
Wave's free Starter plan is single-user only - any collaborator requires upgrading to Pro, which then allows unlimited users with admin/editor/viewer roles. Cosmobill bundles 5 seats into a flat $10/mo Galaxy tier with no per-plan user-count jump from 1.
Up to 5 (Galaxy, $10/mo)
1 (Starter) · Unlimited with roles (Pro, $19/mo)
Read-only ("Viewer") role at no extra cost
Wave's viewer role only exists once you're on Pro; Cosmobill's read-only role is bundled with Galaxy's team seats at no separate charge.
no - requires Pro ($19/mo)
Multiple business identities under one login
Wave allows up to 15 business profiles per account at no extra cost - more generous in raw count than Cosmobill, though each Wave business profile is managed and billed independently for its own Pro upgrade if needed. Cosmobill's multiple businesses share one account and one plan's entitlements.

A note on this comparison

Wave details above come from waveapps.com's public pricing page and support articles as of when this page was written - pricing pages change, so if something here looks off, treat waveapps.com as the source of truth for their current plans. Wave is a genuinely deep product with real strengths Cosmobill doesn't try to match - full double-entry bookkeeping (balance sheet, P&L), receipt scanning, and up to 15 free business profiles per account among them. Where Cosmobill differs is in what's un-gated on its free plan: PayPal checkout, time tracking, file attachments, and invoice discussions are all baseline on every Cosmobill plan, none of which Wave offers even on Pro. Wave's free Starter plan is also single-user - any second person on the account, even in a read-only role, requires its $19/mo Pro plan, nearly double what Cosmobill charges for its top team-enabled tier. Every Cosmobill row marked available on a plan is a feature that actually ships in the product today, not a roadmap item.
